How Beta Carotene Benefits Health
Beta carotene benefits health in many ways. This antioxidant, the most beneficial from the powerful carotenoid group of antioxidants, is what gives orange and deep yellow fruits and vegetables their color. It is converted in the body to Vitamin A.

Eating a healthy diet rich in beta carotene is linked to a lower risk of heart disease and certain cancers such as lung, prostate, breast and uterine cancer.
Beta carotene also boosts the immune system and helps keep colds and flu and other infections at bay.
It is also important in protecting the skin and eyes from UV sun damage and delaying the formation of skin wrinkles and cataracts. Beta carotene is essential for overall eye health – hence the old adage of eating carrots to help you see in the dark.
You cannot dangerously overdose on the naturally occurring beta carotene found in fruit and veggies. Be careful if you take beta-carotene supplements though, as these can be dangerous in high quantities.
If you look in the mirror and see an odd coloured reflection staring back at you,you could be eating too many beta-carotene rich foods. It is possible that when your diet contains too much beta carotene your skin will take on a temporary orange tinge. Cut back on the papaya or carrots and your skin will return to its normal shade.
This orange glow can be especially noticeable in babies and young children. Again cut back on the orange fruits and veg and it should subside within a day or too. If you're not certain that the change in skin color was due to beta-carotene,make sure to consult your doctor or nutritionist to confirm the cause.
